Ecology
The New Forest, thanks to nearly a thousand years of protected status, is one of the richest ecological sites in Europe. The preservation of that environment has become a political issue from late Victorian times to the present, and the subject is covered in detail in two chapters of THE FOREST: 'Pride of the Forest' and 'The Forest'.
